I have a friend who’s been living with her boyfriend for 5 years now, and their child just turned a year old last Christmas. They’ve been together for a total of six years, and in that whole time they almost never discussed marriage, except for that one time when the man told her that he doesn’t believe in it. My friend dropped the matter, hoping he will soon come to his senses.
Now they have a kid and she’s afraid she will just be a common-law wife for the rest of her life. She wants to be married – civil or church, she doesn’t care. She is asking me if I think she’s crazy to want it or not, even though they have the ideal relationship without marriage, anyway.
