In countries where individual flocks of sheep or goats are still cared for by a shepherd, the shepherd comes to a compound every morning where the sheep of a number of shepherds are kept overnight for safekeeping.
He comes to get them to where the better pastures are. He will stand at the gate of the compound and call his sheep. The sheep will then recognize his voice and come to him because it is the same voice what has called them everyday of their lives and taken them to where the good food is.
